In support of the Provincial Department of Health’s vaccination programme, in and around the Kathu and Kuruman area, Kathu Solar Park joined the Northern Cape Shared Value Initiative, in a successful Public Private Partnership. This collaboration between the local government stakeholders and a number of local private-sector companies assisted in driving the CV-19 health programme in this district.
Our collaborative effort meant that in the midst of the pandemic, personal protective clothing such as 10 000 disposable gowns, coverall body suits, respiratory and surgical masks, and safety goggles for eye protection were donated via the Department of Health, to local state hospitals and other medical facilities.
The support was aimed at easing the burden of the pandemic on the Department of Health’s resources. Kathu Solar Park’s support was therefore geared towards keeping medical staff and community members safe in the Kuruman Hospital and the Tshwaragano Community Hospital, in Batlharos, as well as numerous community clinics.
Working as a collective, Kathu Solar Park joined other local stakeholders, all working together to achieve greater socio-economic impact, within the surrounding communities. The cohort included amongst others; South 32 Mine, Sishen Iron Ore Company (SIOC) Community Development Trust, Sishen Iron Ore mine, Kudumane Manganese Reserve, Assmang Blackrock and Khumani Iron Ore and a number of other renewable energy power producers, in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, collectively forming the Northern Cape Shared Value Initiative.
